DIGITAL BOY : LOGO & ICON FOR AN ELECTRONIC MUSIC DJ & RECORDING ARTIST

DJ/Artist branding for legendary DJ/producer Digital Boy

The perceptionof the name "Digital Boy" immediately hit me as a young kid just starting his DJ career. One of the hot fly-by-night names to be here today and gone tomorrow. The fact of the matter is that Digital Boy is responsible for some of the most important music in the dance music arena over the years since the late 80's. I knew the logo had to reflect that.

With that in mind I wanted a really slick Euro style design that kind of "morphed" into this low-fi, Atari style 8-bit design style. It is a visual representation of Digital Boy's roots and rich dance music history as well as putting the "digital" in Digital Boy. The reason I did the word "boy" rather than "digital" is because the artist came up with the name way back when he was well...a boy. The "boy" part represents his old school roots and the other part keeps the artist relevant and up with the times.

The little color "pixels" were a way to bring some energy into the logo as well as a nod to stuff that was done for guys like The Pet Shop Boys way back when. The whole aesthetic is also a bit of a tribute to Designers Republic out of the UK who are responsible for some of the baddest branding and design in dance music and beyond for that matter.

The 8-bit Atari guy was added to take the entire concept a little bit further so the connection and the read happens as fast paced as the music genre it will be applied in.
